Probably the worst experience I've had with a medical professional. I saw Dr. Mahdavie for allergy issues, he could not have been worse. Like the previous reviewer wrote, it is impossible to get anyone on the phone without waiting on hold for at least 5 minutes straight, but I have had to wait as long as 10 or 15 minutes. Not sure about the rest of you, but I don't have time for that, especially bc I was calling multiple times a week to check in about other issues involving scheduling and test results.

It took me weeks to even get in to see the doctor, as it seems he keeps bizarre hours, from what I can tell about 9-2. The receptionists were rarely helpful when it came to scheduling, and multiple times when I called I was told there was only one nurse there who could advise on availability. 4 out of 5 times, when I did call, she was busy. I was told that she would call me back, but she seemed to have a massive backlog of calls to return, since I was never called back, I just had to keep calling and hope that I caught her at her desk. A pretty idiotic system, if you ask me.

Weeks later when I finally came in to see the doctor, I accidentally arrived early for my appointment (that was on me, but I never received a reminder call, which would have been appreciated). I waited in the office, filled out all of my entry paperwork well before the appointment and proceeded to wait. My 8 o'clock appointment came and went, soon it was 9 o'clock and I was still waiting. No one said anything to me about the doctor running late, no apologies for the now 2 hours that I had spent in the waiting room. I overheard the receptionist saying to another nurse that "he was at the door." Not sure if that meant Dr. Mahdavie was leaving his home or was just getting in. They made no effort to let me know what I might be waiting for.

Finally, around 9:30, I was shown into an exam room where a nurse took some vitals and made no mention of the doctor. No "the doctor will be right in," nothing. As far as I knew, he had not even arrived. I waited in the room for about another half hour before the doctor finally made his appearance. He was an elderly man who spent about 2 minutes asking me questions. He seemed very uninterested and unfriendly.

I came back a few times in the following weeks for allergy testing, which was uneventful, since the nurses handled those procedures. When the testing was all done, the doctor concluded that I had an allergy to dust, so no treatment was needed (another 2 minute drive-by diagnosis). I reminded him that my reactions had been severe and I was hoping to get on a series of allergy shots. He answered that dust allergies didn't require shots, but when I expressed concern about my reactions, he left the room for two minutes and came back and said they would put in the request for the shots to be made. End of consult. No explanation, no dialogue.

At the end of all of this, I ended up having to change insurance and see a new allergist who sat with me in her office for 15 minutes asking tons of questions and answering all of mine. She informed me that the reactions I was suffering from COULD NOT BE TREATED with shots. To be fair, that is what Dr. Mahdavie told me, but was willing to inject me once a week without ever explaining that it wouldn't actually help my allergies at all. This new doctor explained thoroughly everything that was going on, while Dr. Mahdavie couldn't have cared less and didn't bother explaining anything to me.

To sum up, Dr. Mahdavie may have been good 20 years ago, but it now seems that he is counting the days until his retirement. He didn't take any time to explain the treatment he was providing. He is careless and unfriendly, and his office staff is unhelpful at best.

If anyone is looking for a GOOD allergist, Dr. Zakarian at Kaiser is great!
